The current farm bill expires at the end of September. South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson expects a draft farm bill will be in place next month. “We’re a little bit behind where we want to be, but I think we’ll put the finishing touches on the draft by August and pass it out of committee by September.” in the new farm bill, Johnson wants more market transparency. “I’d like to see more competition out there and having the four biggest packers control the (cattle) market is not good.”
