Western South Dakota is the only part of the state getting moisture this year. South Dakota Wheat Growers Association Executive Director Karen Osmund said that changed the typical look of winter wheat in the state. While protein is high, yields are lower. “It’s going to be a tougher year for wheat. We’ll see what comes out of the southwest part of the state. If the protein and test weight are a little better, they may have to do a little blending.”
