Once African Swine Fever is confirmed in North America, it will be too late. Minnesota Farm Bureau Vice President Carolyn Olson used her own farm as an example when describing the impact of ASF. “If we are unable to raise pigs any longer in our barns because our grower has to depopulate that means we have no manure and no fertility for our organic crops and that will be devastating for us,” said Olson. “It’s also our neighbors who raise the corn and soybeans that go to feed the pigs. It’s a ripple effect that will have a impact on the local economy that I can’t even put into a estimate because it will be devastating.”
