North Dakota Stockmen’s Association hosted their feedlot tour with a stop to see a hoop barn near Goodrich, North Dakota. Kirby Steichen says they participated in a program that transformed their old feedlot back into hay ground. There are several reasons they made the transition to the hoop barn. “The cattle can withstand the elements a little better. They’re out of the direct heat and getting them out of the wind and a roof over their head makes a huge difference when it’s cold.” Transitioning to a hoop barn saves on labor. Steichen says this setup allows for more efficient handling of cattle.
