Even with a delayed spring, the region’s sunflower planting season is off to a decent start. National Sunflower Association Executive Director John Sandbakken says about one-third of the crop is planted. “There is slight emergence but it’s very little.” A good soaking rain is on the wish list, but the moisture has been spotty at best.
