An atypical case of BSE has been found in a five-year or older beef cow at a South Carolina slaughter plant. The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said this cow is associated with a cattle herd in Tennessee. Atypical BSE is rare. It usually is found in older cattle and it happens spontaneously. USDA emphasizes the animal never entered the food chain and there is no risk to human health.
