During April, milk production in the 24 major dairy states totaled 18.4 billion pounds. That’s up 0.5 percent from one year ago. In Minnesota, milk production rose 1.5 percent with 1,000 cows added to the dairy herd in the past year. Milk output in South Dakota was up 7.7 percent with the addition of 13,000 cows added to production since April 2022. California is the largest dairy production state in the country; it’s milk production declined nearly two percent over the past year.
