In a ballot initiative like California Prop 12, National Pork Producers Council Chief Legal Stragegist Michael Formica says consumers are likely not aware of what this will actually mean for animal welfare, but will soon see impacts at grocery stores. “California pork producers are not happy. They’re farming because they have a calling to provide food to people. A ballot initiative like this will interfere with that.” NPPC President Scott Hayes says his farm does not plan to change operational practices based on the ruling and urges other farmers to carefully consider their options if looking to comply.
