According to the USDA, 2023 global beef production is projected to increase while U.S. production is forecast to decline. Oklahoma State University Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist Derrell Peel is optimistic about prices. “We’re moving into tighter supplies and I don’t know if we’ll see a lot of drop-offs in prices this summer.” Peel says the drought in the Southern Plains is still an issue for livestock producers. “There are places in Oklahoma where within 60 miles, you can go through all of the drought categories in just an hours’ time of driving.”
