American Farm Bureau Federation economist Danny Munch says the current inflated economy has been the push for dairy organizations to ask for higher make allowances in federal milk marketing order reform. “The problem on our end is the process to change make-allowances is based on voluntary surveys. We won’t support make-allowances until the surveys are mandatory so the numbers can more accurately reflect market conditions.” The International Dairy Foods Association and the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association formally petitioned USDA to change the make-allowances. USDA has until April 29th to issue a plan to complete a hearing within 120 days, request additional information from IDFA and WCMA or reject their requests.
