The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association spent time meeting with state legislators Wednesday. Beltrami farmer Mike Skaug, who is a past president of the organization, said biofuels are on the agenda. “Last year was our 20th year of biodiesel in the state, it contributes about 5,000 jobs and nearly $1.7 billion towards the state’s economy.” The State of Minnesota’s goal is a carbon-neutral economy. Skaug is concerned about that direction. “We feel biofuels are going to get lost in the shuffle and we don’t want to lose that momentum we’ve been gaining.” MSGA is also seeking a $3.5 million exclusion for the homestead tax credit to offset the increasing land values.
