Turf seed production is a growing industry in Minnesota. State Representative John Burkel introduced a bill that would provide grant funding for research. Minnesota Turf Seed Council Executive Director Marvin Zutz testified about the importance of the continued research for turf seed grasses. “The only thing that seems to be growing faster than rye grass acres is the number of research questions relating to rye grass production, ” said Zutz. “Producers continue to depend on the Turf Grass Council and the University of Minnesota to answer these questions.” The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the Agriculture Finance and Policy omnibus bill.
