Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome Powell told lawmakers the central bank would consider raising interest rates by a half percentage point later this month. During his semiannual visit to Capitol Hill to discuss monetary policy, Powell also said the benchmark interest rate will need to rise to approximately 5.5 percent to bring inflation under control. The Fed increased interest rates by four-and-a-half percent in the past year.
