Milk production in the 24 major dairy states totaled 18.5 billion pounds in January. That’s up 1.5 percent from January of last year. Minnesota milk production increased 1.1 percent. South Dakota’s milk output rose more than nine percent. Minnesota’s dairy herd declined by 1,000 cows in the past year. Meanwhile, an additional 17,000 cows were added in South Dakota.
