In a report requested by Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, the General Accountability Office has outlined 13 options for agriculture to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There are some controversial recommendations, including the requirement for specific climate-smart farming practices to participate in federal commodity programs and crop insurance. House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn ‘G.T.’ Thompson is opposed to this linkage, saying these practices should be voluntary.
