Milk production in the 24 major dairy states totaled 18.1 billion pounds in December. That’s up 0.9 percent from December of 2021. South Dakota milk output rose nearly nine percent with an increase of 16,000 head of dairy cows in the past year. In Minnesota, milk production declined 0.3 percent. The leading dairy states of Wisconsin and California saw milk production increase a fraction of one percent.
