Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its impact on agriculture is the number two story for the Red River Farm Network this past year. This is a war between two global agricultural powerhouses. An agreement to move grain out of the Black Sea was negotiated by the United Nations, Turkey, Ukraine and Russia. This deal was done to reduce food security concerns, especially in places like the Middle East and Africa. Oil, natural gas and fertilizer markets have also been influenced by the war. The damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure is significant and will influence agriculture in this region for generations to come.
