Crop insurance is the number one priority for the National Association of Wheat Growers in the next farm bill. NAWG President Nicole Berg also wants to see the PLC reference price for wheat to move beyond the current $5.50 per bushel. “Take all the regions in the United States and $7 (per bushel) is our break even,” said Berg. “We’re $2.50 below our break even in our reference price and is that really fair? That doesn’t really cover our costs, it doesn’t really help us when we’re price takers.” Berg was in Grand Forks for the Prairie Grains Conference.
