Union officials and representatives of the railroad industries are meeting daily over Zoom to discuss the current labor dispute. Without a deal, a strike or work stoppage could begin by December 9. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Biden is participating in the negotiations. “We have to avoid a rail shutdown; it will harm families, businesses and farms.” The White House is calling on all parties to get together and resolve this issue. Eight unions have ratified the tentative contract, while four unions rejected the deal. If a strike happens, all of the unions have promised not to cross a picket line.
