Valent will have a limited supply of its new Maverick premium corn herbicide in 2023. Valent Product Manager Erick Garcia says this weedkiller features three modes of action. “Maverick is the first corn herbicide to feature the active incredient pyroxasulfone, which is a Group 15 herbicide,” said Garcia. “We’re talking about three modes of action with pyrox, clopyralid and mesotrione providing that residual plus post activity.” Maverick controls waterhemp, Palmer amaranth and other broadleaves and grasses. It is a long and expensive processing bringing a new product to market. “From concept to testing to EPA and state registration, we’re looking at eight-to-ten years.” EPA has a backlog of products to review, which adds to the lengthy registration process.
