Mexico’s ban on genetically modified imports is on track to cut is imports of U.S. corn in half by 2024. National Corn Growers Association Director of Public Policy Angus Kelly says the timeline is just too quick. “If the decrees are fully implemented by next year, we’re harvesting biotech corn today and we’re purchasing biotech seed corn for 2023; they’re not going to change their management in the next year.” The NCGA is urging the administration to intervene. “We’re asking the U.S. Trade Represeative to step and tell Mexico to live up to the letter in the law of the previous trade agreement.”
