According to Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen, there’s been 20 positive Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza cases since the summer. “We just hit 100 cases for the year; that’s four million birds.” Petersen said $1 million-to-$3 million is needed from the state to help with mitigation. Minnesota is looking for help from the federal government, too. “I’ve been in a lot of national meetings the last few weeks, making sure we have the supplies to help depopulate those farms and get them up and going as soon as possible.”
