The new Minnesota Board of Animal Health Executive Director and state veterinarian Dr. Marion Garcia is on her second week of the job. Garcia started earlier than expected, right as the fall outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza started picking up in Minnesota. “I wanted to start early to get on board cleanly and help out wherever I could.” Garcia says the fall virus is similar to the outbreak in the spring. “It’s a very hot strain, but as long as we put forth the efforts we’re familiar with, we should be able to manage through it.”
