Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced details of USDA’s $300 million investment in the new Organic Transition Initiative. “We know that we need more market opportunities for organic producers and one of the first steps we took was to reduce cost for certification.” Over 7,300 organic producers have utilized the initiative’s assistance. Vilsack says this new initiative has three components to it. “First and foremost, we’re providing technical assistance for the organic process. We’re also providing financial assistance for conservation costs and crop insurance.”
