On its first day, the western leg of the Pro Farmer crop tour traveled from Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Grand Island Nebraska. Pro Farmer’s Chip Flory says the southeastern corner of South Dakota is terrible. “One year ago when we wrapped up in South Dakota, we were at 151.5 bushels per acre. That’s down 22 percent. The thing about the South Dakota crop is it flip flops from what we normally see in the state. Normally, north of I-90, we’d see yields go down. South of the interstate, yields would go up. That’s not the case this year. The crop north of I-90 is much better than what we saw in the southeast part of the state.” South Dakota’s soybean crop is being impacted by drought and heat.
