Fremont, Ohio-based Sunrise Cooperative Vice President of Grain Craig Haugaard says the Ohio wheat harvest wrapped up in early July. “As we wrap up wheat harvest, usually July 4 is our big harvest time. It was the best wheat harvest we’ve had since I’ve been here. Yields were phenomenal. We heard many reports of 110 bushel per acre wheat. Our acreage was down and we expected to be down from last year, but we were higher than last year by a few percent.” The quality of Ohio’s soft red winter wheat is always a concern. “Because we get more rain than the Dakotas, there’s usually a lot of sprout damage, but we didn’t see that this year.”
