Provincial agriculture ministers are pushing back on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2030. The Trudeau plan includes a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from fertilizer applications. Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit said this is an “arbitrary goal” Manitoba Ag Minister Derek Johnson supports a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions but wants the federal government to recognize the improvements already made by Canadian farmers.
