The winter wheat harvest is well underway in South Dakota. South Dakota State University Extension Agronomist Jonathan Kleinjan says some parts of the crop suffered from heat stress. “I had a producer call me from Onida saying he was disappointed in the yield because the variety he had was affected by the heat. I don’t think that will be very common, but there will be instances where that happens.” Spring wheat harvest is still a few days out. “The Brookings area is still 10 days away. The closest would probably be more so west river area.” Kleinjan says the spring wheat crop looks excellent.
