The late planting season will affect the sugarbeet crop. “When we knew the planting date would be delayed about three weeks, we made the decision to plant another 50,000 acres,” said Brian Ingulsrud, vice president of agriculture, American Crystal Sugar Company. “That gave us the potential to reach our target of 12 million total tons. Unfortunately, the last few weekends have been really windy. Those winds hammered our crop and I’m afraid we’ve lost additional yield from the wind events.”
