South Dakota farmers planted nearly six million acres of corn, down four percent from last year. Soybean acreage is forecast at 5.5 million acres, up one percent. The planted area for spring wheat totals 770,000 acres, an increase of seven percent from one year ago. Alfalfa acreage is at 1.6 million acres, up 23 percent.
