June 30 is the final day to apply over-the-top dicamba products in North Dakota and northern Minnesota. NDSU Extension Weed Specialist Joe Ikley says for farmers with many acres left to cover, prioritize the weediest fields. “Where you know you want to rely on dicamba as the backbone for weed control and try to get that done in the windows we have. Target the weediest fields and we’ll have to figure out a plan B after the sun sets Thursday.” When applying over-the-top dicamba or other products, growers should remain mindful of the temps. “In North Dakota, we don’t have a temperature cut off, but Minnesota has a cut off at 85 degrees. Volatility can increase past 85 degrees. Otherwise, the Group 14 products in soybeans, Group 27 products in wheat, along with growth regulators in corn and wheat, the hotter it gets, the higher the likelihood for crop injury.”
