Former USDA Under Secretary Greg Ibach believes federal conservation programs should be reformed for climate considerations. At this point, conservation programs, like carbon sequestration programs, aren’t taking into account previous farming practices. “Farmers that are first adopters have already started to do no-till practices, plant cover crops and use bio-stimulants. They’re getting told already by private companies and if we don’t move away from this philosophy, they will get told by USDA, I’m sorry, you’re already doing that so you have to do something more.” Ibach was featured in the South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s ag summit.
