Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack was in New York City this past week to discuss global food security at the United Nations. Vilsack said the world’s awareness of global food security is increasing due to supply chain disruptions, climate and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “I was heartened by the fact that much of what we’re doing in the United States seems to be in line with what the rest of the world is doing,” Vilsack said it is important to get grain out of Ukraine relatively soon, because of the upcoming harvest. “We’d like to see the ports open because it’s the most efficient way to transport the grain, but it will still take time if the port is opened.”
