Hillsboro farmer Jon Bertsch met Ukrainian Roman Grynyshyn through the Rural Leadership North Dakota program nearly four years ago and is traveling with him this week. Bertsch believes farmers want to help their neighbors. “The neighbor just looks a little different because they are across the pond,” said Bertsch. “A lot of people want to help out, but that trust factor gives us pause because they want to make sure any donation goes into the right hands. I want to spread the message as much as possible that I support this.” Bertsch Farms is pledging a penny-per-bushel donation for the 2022 crop year to the World to Rebuild Ukraine project. Farmers are being encouraged to make a similar pledge or make a cash donation to the cause.
