Progressive Ag Marketing market analyst Bryan Strommen says farmers are exploring their options as the planting window narrows. “Farmers have to look at the final planting dates for the crops. Looking at the numbers, they want to know guarantees. Farmers also have to consider the price for new crop corn and when they can get into the field. What are your options?” Strommen thinks this past week’s weather will determine the number of prevent plant acres in the Northern Plains. “We haven’t had much planting progress on the corn side. I think that weather will certainly play into that. By the end of the month, farmers don’t want to plant wheat and corn beyond that date. There’s incentive to get that done, but we need conditions that allow it.”
