The EPA plans to issue an emergency waiver for the use of 15 percent ethanol blends during the summer driving season. A White House statement says the higher ethanol blends will reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil and put more focus on home-grown biofuels. This plan will include $700 million in pandemic assistance to biofuel producers, money to expand the infrastructure for renewable fuels and a proposal to allow canola oil to be part of the Renewable Fuel Standard. President Joe Biden is scheduled to make the official announcement this afternoon while visiting an Iowa ethanol plant. The White House fact sheet about today’s E-15 announcement repeatedly describes the current fuel costs as “Putin’s Price Hike.’
