The Russia-Ukraine war is getting attention in the House Agriculture Committee. In Tuesday’s farm bill hearing, Georgia Representative Austin Scott asked if the committee could hold a hearing looking at the potential reduction in global food supply and geopolitical stability around the world. Committee Chairman David Scott responded. “We know farmers in Ukraine may not be able to plant this spring, because of the fighting. We also know that some parts of Ukraine would not be capable of being planted, because of the damage of this terrible and wrong Russia invasion,” said Scott. “I’ll be asking you and our other colleagues to join me in sending a letter to Secretary Vilsack to bring additional tools to help address this humanitarian crisis.” Chairman Scott said the House Agriculture Committee will do what is possible to make sure there is no hunger crisis.
