Ranchers are being encouraged to seek out a veterinarian-client relationship to access antibiotics. Under the new FDA guidance, several antibiotics will no longer be available over the counter. NDSU Extension Livestock Stewardship Specialist Gerald Stokka says it should only impact a small portion of antibiotics used in the livestock industry. “The new guidelines are going to revolve around a shift in the labeling on most over-the-counter antibiotics; they will now become prescription antibiotics. That’s the biggest difference I see coming to us in 2023.”
