A study published by the National Academy of Sciences claims corn-based ethanol is not a climate-friendly fuel. The research was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Wildlife Federation. It found ethanol is 24 percent more carbon-intensive than gasoline due to the emissions created when growing the crop. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper called the study “completely fictional” and developed by “cherry-picked data.”
