The EPA’s chlorpyrifos ban affects many agricultural commodities. “The groups suing the EPA shows the breadth of the impact. Our concern is the way the product was taken off the market. It’s not the way pesticides are supposed to be regulated in this country,” said Daren Coppock, CEO, Ag Retailers Association. “For political reasons, the industry is going to lose a critically important tool.” Coppock said the EPA’s rule sets a precedent for other pesticides. “Activists sued and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals insisted the EPA revoke food tolerances for the crop. Essentially, this is a back door shortcut to take products off the market by revoking tolerances.”
