With more residual nitrogen left in the soil last fall, University of Minnesota Extension Soybean Agronomist Seth Naeve says there’s a greater chance for Iron Deficiency Chlorosis. Selecting an IDC tolerant soybean variety is a good strategy. “That’s our number one, two, three and four strategies. Unfortunately, we don’t always know we have good IDC tolerance in new varieties and sometimes we get slammed by worse IDC than we expected.” Naeve reminds farmers to focus on the things that can be controlled. “Don’t dwell on the thing we can’t control, but if we know we’ve got problems, farmers should try to manage around them some way.”
