A drought relief package was proposed late last summer, but Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and legislative leaders were unable to come to terms on a special session. With the regular session underway, House Agriculture Committee Chair Mike Sundin said drought assistance will be expedited. “That is priority #1 both in the House and the Senate and the governor wants to see a bill on his desk as soon as possible to get some money out the door to go to those most impacted by the drought.” The Minnesota Corn Growers Association is pushing for legislation to increase the state ethanol standard from ten percent to 15 percent. This comes at a time when the state is building the infrastructure for electric vehicles. “I agree with the governor that we can do both; we can walk and chew gum at the same time.”
