The Environmental Working Group has released an analysis of the crop insurance program. According to this data, insurance payments to farmers increased more than 400 percent from 1995-to-2020. Drought-related indemnity payments totaled $1.6 billion. Payments due to excess moisture rose nearly 300 percent, totaling $2.6 billion. An EWG economist blames the climate, saying this crisis has battered farmers at taxpayers’ expense.
