Margins are good for most ag processing, but significant gains have been seen in oilseeds. “That’s why you’re seeing this explosion of good margins, growth and with the low carbon fuel standards, demand for oilseeds,” says Stephen Nicholson, Global Strategist for Grain and Oilseeds, RaboBank. “When you look at soybeans, North Dakota and Minnesota were the places where basis was the cheapest and there was good transportation to move to the west coast. Companies are seeing the opportunities.” New soy crush facilities may also expand the market for soybean meal.
