Grain traders will continue to monitor ethanol demand. Global Commodity Analytics and Consulting President Mike Zuzolo says proposed ethanol mandates are concerning. “The ethanol mandate issue that the Biden administration is reportedly looking at came out right before the USDA reports. I think that carried over with a negative mindset and some fear we could see a lower mandate.” With weak export demand for corn, Zuzolo says ethanol consumption is critical. “Especially in light of the fact you would have had a demand reduction in U.S. corn in January versus December, because of exports, had it not have been for a complete offset and increase in ethanol usage. The trade is wondering about that.”
