Farm Bureau delegates gave the organization its marching orders for the year ahead. The newly-adopted policies include a focus on the cattle markets. After several hours of debate, the resolution says Farm Bureau opposes any government mandates that force livestock slaughter facilities to purchase a set percentage of their live animal supply by cash bids. That is in opposition to a proposal made by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer last year. The South Dakota Farm Bureau also proposed support for mandatory Country of Origin Labeling, but that was not approved. RRFN’s coverage of the AFBF convention is sponsored, in part, by the South Dakota Farm Bureau.
