Grand Forks’ proposed fertilizer plant would be part of the Midwest Carbon Express Pipeline that will send carbon from the Cornbelt to western North Dakota and stored underground. Northern Plains Nitrogen has been in planning stage since 2013 and is still seeking investors. Company officials said this pipeline improves the opportunity for the Grand Forks facility to move forward. If realized, Northern Plains Nitrogen would join 30-plus ethanol plants connected to the pipeline.
