In 2020, 1.4 percent of total U.S. employment worked on the farm. Forbes cites a Bureau of Economic Analysis report, saying South Dakota had the highest percent of its population employed on the farm. That total is just shy of 5.5 percent. North Dakota is ranked second with 5.4 percent of its total population involved in farm employment. In Minnesota, just over two percent of its workers are on the farm.
