To prevent the spread of potato wart, a fungus affecting fresh potatoes, Canada will restrict potato movement from Prince Edward Island to other Canadian provinces and the United States. The fungus is present on two different farms in the province. All potato exports from that area of Canada are suspended until further notice and the equipment used in fields in the province will have new restrictions before coming into the United States. The National Potato Council says if potato wart is transmitted to the U.S., the country’s potato industry would likely lose access to all international fresh potato markets.
