USDA is allowing nine pork processing plants to operate at faster line speeds. A 20-year pilot program allowed faster line speeds to expand pork packing capacity by 2.5 percent, but that was taken away this summer when a federal court intervened. The North American Meat Institute, which represents major meatpacking companies, said this decision will help ease current supply chain challenges.
